New For 2013: JumpStart LCO

Novozymes BioAg is expanding its portfolio of biological fertility products with the introduction of new JumpStart LCO, a seed-applied product for use in corn, soybeans and other grain crops. JumpStart LCO is a combination of two proven crop-enhancing technologies: Penicillium bilaii and LCO (lipo-chitooligosaccharide) Promoter Technology.

Penicillium bilaii is a naturally occurring soil fungus that provides crops with better access to soil and fertilizer phosphate. P. bilaii colonizes (grows along) plant roots, and as the fungus grows and multiplies, it produces organic acids that break the bonds that trap phosphate in mineral form in the soil, enhancing the availability of the plant nutrient to the crop.

LCO Promoter Technology is a naturally occurring plant signal molecule. When present at the time of planting, LCO Promoter Technology enhances the plant’s nutritional capabilities, which drive natural growth processes such as root and shoot development, immediately and independently of variety, soil and environmental conditions. The result of this early season activity is better plant health and performance.

In addition to the seed-applied Jump- Start LCO, Novozymes BioAg also offers Torque, an in-furrow LCO Promoter Technology for corn in an easy-to-use product applied in conjunction with popup or liquid starter fertilizers.

Learn more about JumpStart LCO and Torque at your ag retailer, seed treater or by visiting bioag.novozymes.com.

Seed Applied Fungicide From Valent

Valent U.S.A. recently announced that Rizolex fungicide has been registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for use as a seed protectant on soybeans, cotton, sorghum, corn and sugar beets.

When applied to seed as a foundational fungicide, Rizolex delivers protection against a broad spectrum of soilborne and seed/seedling diseases, including Rhizoctonia damping-off and Fusarium. The new seed protectant offers a unique and needed mode of action and creates a strong protective zone around the seed for better stand establishment and increased yield across a variety of crops.

The mode of action for Rizolex is in a class by itself. It has also shown exceptional control when partnered with several of Valent’s additional seed protectants, both in-development compounds and the NipsIt SUITE family of products. The unique formulation of Rizolex creates a virtual vapor “shield” around the seed, providing a distinctive and persistent protective zone around the seed regardless of the soil type, condition, pH level or any fertilization program.

For more information on the full Valent product line, call 800-6-VALENT (682-5368) or visit the Valent Web site at www.valent.com.
